With the initiative of the Trichy Corporation to maintain the leading position of the city in upcoming Swachh Survekshan survey, initiatives are being taken to upgrade to garbage bin free environment. This is aimed to handover the waste from residences only to sanitary workers involved in door to door collection of wastes. These wastes are centered on Micro Compost Centers thus ruling out the need for garbage bins. According to the corporation, the strategy is to remove the bins from public places so that the patronage for door-to-door waste collection increases besides eliminating the health hazards involving overflowing garbage bins in open places. This will also reduce the transportation charge involved in collecting garbage from public bins which is an unwanted addition to the charges consumed by the door to door collection pattern. Due to the presence of bins in public spots, residents, without availing of door-to-door waste collection, were allegedly dumping domestic waste in public bins. To overcome the constraint these bins are being removed initially in residential areas without much concentration over bins in commercial areas.
