Shanmuga Nagar Welfare Association celebrated the silver jubilee of their welfare association. This was established in the year 1992 and was recently awarded the BEST STREET award by the Trichy Corporation. They played a major role in waste segregation, sanitation and road management thus helping the city to score a good rank in the clean city list. The celebration saw the presence of nearly 1000 people including the members from 1800 families residing in Shanmuga Nagar. The association also encouraged the residents who contributed the most by giving gold coin. Mr.Rajamani, secretary of the association said that most of the participants of the association involved retired people who wish to contribute to the society in their leisure time. The association does not collect any monthly charges but Rs.1000 is collected initially as a life time charge. The residents are also encouraged to plant trees by giving them free manure distributed by the city corporation. The corporation commissioner announced in the celebration that people should take them as an example and serve to make the city a hygienic place for the future generation.
