The construction of Trichy-Madurai highway which has been long pending since 2010 after a petition from the farmer’s organization has now been revised with new design. There has been no objection over the revised plan and the proposal is to be sent to Union Ministry of Environment and Forests for clearance. In the public hearing made last week for land acquisition there was no objection and locals were in favor of laying the road. After submission clearance is expected from MoEF within 30-45 days. This would be followed by the land acquisition process and subsequently tenders will be called for. All this process is expected to be completed within the next three months. The section between Panchapur on Tiruchi-Madurai NH and near Jeeyapuram on Tiruchi-Karur NH would form part of a semi-ring road that is coming up, connecting almost all major national highways around the city. The court had subsequently directed NHAI to lay the bypass road without affecting irrigation sources.
