SambathGowri Amman Nandhikeswarar Siva Temple - Thuriyur

Arulmigu Maha Sambathgowri Amman - Nandhikeswarar Siva temple lies in the heart of the Thuraiyur town, 48 kms from Tiruchirappalli. The Lord is sung by Appar, Arunagirinathar and other saivate saints. This temple is developed and added with shrines during 8th - 14th centuries.It is said that Iyyanar, Pidari, Nagakanni, Indran, Thirumal, Venuvanamunivar, Parasaran have prayed the Lord Siva here. The temple tank is called 'Nandhi Theertham. It is told that the Sundra Chozhan, named the Linga here as 'Nandhikeswarar.
There are many life size exquisitely carved stone sculptures in the temple. There is a Nagakanni Amman statue enshired in this temple.During all fridays, during raghukalam (10.30 am to 12.00 Noon ) Special poojas are conducted for this Goddess, to expiate the sin of Raghu- Kethu, delay in marriages etc. There is a beautiful centre mandapam (Maiya mandapam) in a dilapidated condition in the big irrigation tank nereby the temple. Sri Vedantha Mahadesigar temple also lies here. During all festive days of Lord Siva, more number of devotees are visiting the Nandhikeswara temple.
