Residents belonging to the Amman nagar and Sundar Nagar Welfare Association knocked on the doors of the district collector on Monday seeing a permanent solution to the menace caused by rice weevils emerging from grains stored at the central warehouse corporation (CWC) in KK Nagar. The residents demanded immediate action to control the insects which were posing a grave threat to their hygiene. However, authorities at CWC refute the charges levelled by the residents. They said that they have stocked the required volume of chemicals for fumigation. It is a method of pest control that completely fills an area with gaseous pesticides or fumigants to suffocate or poison the pests. So, there is no chance that the weevils are emerging from the godown. Based on the complaint the district supply officer(DSO) along with revenue officials visited CWC and inspected the godowns where rice and wheat bags are being stored. After they had inspected the facility and would submit a report to the district collector based on which he would take the required action.
